Spring Workshops Announced

Our current Squad are entering their second year with us, and their workshop programme shifts from the Core Team to invited guests. Lined up between now and June are poet Rachel Long on extracting poems from dreams,  The League of Gentleman’s Jeremy Dyson on unblocking techniques, the Freelance Wrting Jobs’ Sian Meade-Williams on pitching to mags and editors, theatre-maker Keisha Thompson on creating theatre from poetic forms and short fiction writer Gemma Seltzer on writing, walking and place.

Squad grads are also offering workshops to the wider Squad community, Charlotte Wetton on editing poetry, Melody Sproates on exploring our identities through cabaret, and Jamal Gerald on autobiographical performance. Director Steve Dearden will also lead a session on how to respond to call outs and writers’ briefs.

We will of course continue to offer goals sessions, form Script, Prose, Poets, SFF writers and Squad 10 and our Awesome reading clubs, again concentrating on script, prose and poetry.

We also have our first face to face workshop in the diary, at the end of July we will be in Leeds at Yorkshire Dance with writer Kayo Chingonyi and choreographer Ella Mesma. This will be the first meeting of six Squad writers and six dancer/choreographers who began collaborating online during lockdown. This is part of Dance Transports, organised by Squad board member Hannah Robertshaw, Programme Director at Yorkshire Dance.
