Angelique Joins The Board

We’re excited to announce that Angelique Tran Van Sang has joined the Writing Squad board!

Angelique is an agent with Felicity Bryan Associates after being a Commissioning Editor of fiction and non-fiction at Bloomsbury where she worked with writers such as George Saunders, Jhumpa Lahiri, Kamila Shamsie and Patti Smith. She also acquired Ashleigh Young’s Folio Prize-shortlisted Can You Tolerate This? Alexander Chee’s How to Write an Autobiographical Novel and Inferno: A Memoir by Catherine Cho, shortlisted for the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year.

She began her career in publishing as an editor at Te Papa Press in Wellington, New Zealand, and interned at Conville & Walsh before joining Bloomsbury as an assistant. She was named among The Bookseller’s Rising Stars in 2020.

Angelique says, “I am such an admirer of the incredible work that The Writing Squad has done for emerging artists since it began in 2001. They provide invaluable support and a strong network of connections that is essential in creative industries that can often seem opaque and difficult to navigate for outsiders. I’m honoured to be joining the board, and look forward to using my own knowledge to further their reach and output.”

Sophie O’Neill, Chair of the Board, says: “Angelique brings a wealth of valuable publishing industry experience and a great fresh perspective to our board. I’m really looking forward to working with her in the coming months and years as we support Steve and the Core Team in their day to day work and develop the Writing Squad’s future strategies.”

Steve Dearden, Director of The Writing Squad, adds: ‘Angelique brings fantastic experience, knowledge and perspective to our discussions, thinking and to the future direction of the Squad. Welcome Angelique!’
