Libby Williamson
Libby is speculative fiction writer and playwright. She is currently studying at the University of Texas at Austin as part of their New Writers Project, a 3-year fully funded MFA programme which admits 3 Fiction writers each year from around the world. She is currently developing a collection of ASMR-inspired science fiction stories.
In 2024 Libby was awarded a £12000 DYCP grant from Arts Council England to develop her prose work under the mentorship of Granta-winner and Squad grad Saba Sams. As part of this project she also worked with playwright Tim Foley on a play about time-travelling sapphic pirates, and with ASMR scientist Dr Giulia Poerio.
Libby’s theatre company L Squared which toured her ACE-funded sci-fi comedy play FAR OUT to VAULT Festival London 2023 (where it was nominated for the Origins Award) and Omnibus Theatre’s 96 Festival.
Libby is an experienced workshop Facilitator, running writing/creative workshops with organisations including the HIV+ charity George House Trust, The Royal Exchange, DIY and Whitworth Locke. She also toured with Leo & Hyde as their VR Facilitator/show host for the musical Double Life.
Libby spent two years as the Producer for Plaster Cast Theatre which toured their Offie-winning trans physical theatre show Sound Cistem to venues including ZOO at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, VAULT and HOME Manchester. She was one of the BBC Manchester Monologue winners in 2018, and directed the devised immersive play Barred for Greater Manchester Fringe 2019 (****North West End). Her other work includes acting as Manchester Coordinator for the LGBTQ+ children’s book writing project The Rainbow Library.
Libby worked as Squad Coordinator 2022-2025, before moving to Austin Texas for her 3-year MFA programme.
