Salford 100 Murals
Salford
_
Salford is celebrating it’s centenary year in 2026, marking 100 years since it was officially granted city status via Royal Charter by King George V on April 21, 1926.
Along with Grit Studios the Writing Squad has been commissioned to deliver a mural in each of the eight Salford boroughs. Writers James Varney, Martha Jamieson and Ruth Awolola worked with community groups to produce briefs for the mural artists and ther works will appear during October and November.
The first to appear was this maginficent bird on Irlam and Cadishead Leisure Centre, inspired by pupils from Irlam and Cadishead Academy working with Ruth Awolola, and realised by artist Katie Scott.
