Rory is a writer based in Widnes, Cheshire, who specialises in literary short stories. He has been published in the We Write the North anthology and was longlisted for the Bristol Short Story Prize and the Commonwealth Short Story Prize in 2025.

He acted as Project Manager and Editor on Dear Stranger – a narrative chain writing project involving twelve Squad writers. He was commissioned by Pinwheel to write and perform poetry for The Rugby World Cup, responding to the theme The Power of Together, and performed his poem at a civic reception in Warrington.

He is currently working with the writer Anna Walsh as part of a mentorship with Extra Teeth Magazine. He is using the mentorship to develop his debut collection, Romance. The main themes of the collection are masculinity, desire and first intimacies. The violent nature of masculine desire, the guilt and the shame attached, is a central subject of the collection. It will also explore the effects of porn and mass media portrayals of intimacy on a young person’s relationship with desire and their sense of self, and investigate how gender and social expectations shape people.
