Dominic Wins Oxford Poetry Prize

Dominic Leonard has won the Oxford Poetry Prize. Judged by Emily Berry who said, “The winning poem, My Grandfather Goes to the Bathroom by Dominic, caught my attention early in the process for its unexpected title, which turns out to be gently humorous against a poem that is a beautifully sad and tender reflection on the failing body of a loved one as he stands in ‘the bright gap of life’. There was a lot of tenderness in the poems I was drawn to in this competition – perhaps that’s just what I’m looking for right now (perhaps that’s what we’re all looking for).”
