Writing Dance

Three Squad grads were commissioned by Yorkshire Dance to provide creative responses to their Dance Creates Conference in Square Chapel Halifax on October 26th.

The conference was for “for anyone interested or involved in dance for young people, exploring young people’s voice in dance choreography and performance.” Ruby Lawrence, Lenni Sanders and Sarah Gonnet spent the day listening in on discussions, watching performances, and rounded the day off by presenting short thought pieces to the delegates.

Director of Yorkshire Dance, Wieke Eringa, said, “The writers brought a generous curiosity to this dance event and a real openness and understanding. Their imaginative contributions not only captured some of the essence of the challenges and questions around authorship in youth dance but illuminated it with new insight. Their contributions added to the sense that this gathering wasn’t about making perfect steps and shapes, but about creating art.”
